Lumen — Terms of Use
Last updated: 27 July 2026
1. Acceptance
By downloading or using Lumen ("the App"), you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App. These Terms are between you and Space Impactor ("we", "us"), not Apple.
2. Licence
We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use the App on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service.
3. Your content
Your journal entries, attachments, letters, and Lumi conversations are yours. We claim no ownership and no licence to them. They are end-to-end encrypted and we cannot read them.
4. Zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users
Lumen's Circle feature lets you exchange content with people you choose. There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behaviour.
You agree that you will not use Circle — including usernames, display names, statuses, letters, time capsules, and any other user-to-user content — to send, publish, or request:
- harassment, bullying, threats, stalking, or intimidation;
- hate speech or content attacking people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, or veteran status;
- sexual content involving minors, or any sexual exploitation of any person;
- content encouraging self-harm or suicide, or targeting a person in crisis;
- violent, graphic, or gratuitously disturbing content;
- impersonation of another person, organisation, or of Lumen itself;
- spam, scams, phishing, fraud, or unsolicited commercial solicitation;
- illegal content or content that infringes someone else's rights;
- attempts to circumvent blocking, reporting, or the App's security controls.
Consequences. We may remove a username reservation, refuse service, or terminate access for anyone who violates this section. Where the law requires it, we will cooperate with law enforcement.
5. Reporting and blocking
- Block: you can block any Circle user from within the App. Blocking is immediate, takes effect on your device, and stops their requests and content from reaching you.
- Report: you can report abusive behaviour to lumensupport@spaceimpactor.com, and the App provides a reporting flow that prepares the report for you.
What we can and cannot act on — stated plainly. Lumen is end-to-end encrypted and has no server that can read your content. We therefore cannot proactively scan, monitor, or moderate private content, and we will not build the ability to do so, because that would break the encryption every user relies on. What we can act on is what a reporter chooses to send us: when you file a report, you decide whether to include the offending content, and it is decrypted on your device and attached with your explicit consent.
We aim to review reports within 7 days.
What enforcement actually means here — stated precisely rather than reassuringly. Lumen has no server that can suspend an account, and we cannot reach into anyone's device. In practice we can: read what you send us and reply; investigate; and act under these Terms, which may include removing a username from the public directory and refusing further service. We will not claim a capability we do not have.
The protection that works instantly is blocking, and it works without us. Blocking takes effect on your device the moment you tap it, whether or not you ever send a report, and it does not depend on us reading anything.
6. Lumi is not a health service
Lumi is an on-device reflection companion. It is not a therapist, doctor, counsellor, or crisis service, and it does not diagnose, treat, or provide medical advice. It runs a general-purpose on-device language model and can be wrong.
If you are in crisis or may be at risk of harming yourself or someone else, contact your local emergency services or a crisis line immediately. The App surfaces a directory of free, confidential support lines. Do not rely on Lumen in an emergency.
7. Accounts and usernames
Circle usernames are bound to your Apple Account and are first-come, first-served. Do not choose a username that impersonates another person or organisation. We may reclaim usernames that violate these Terms. A username you retire stays reserved so that others cannot impersonate you.
8. Data loss and recovery — read this
Lumen's encryption keys are held on your device and are deliberately not backed up anywhere we or Apple can read.
If you lose access to your device and have not set up a recovery phrase or another trusted device, your journal cannot be recovered by anyone, including us. This is a consequence of genuine end-to-end encryption, not a defect. Set up a recovery phrase and store it somewhere safe.
9. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The App is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind to the fullest extent permitted by law. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for lost data. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
10. Termination
You may stop using the App at any time and erase your data from within it. We may suspend or terminate access for a violation of these Terms.
11. Apple
Apple is not a party to these Terms and has no obligation to provide support for the App. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and may enforce them.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
13. Changes
We may update these Terms; the "last updated" date will change and material changes will be surfaced in the App.
